SpiceJet: Are discounts to gain back flyers' trust working?

The beleaguered airline Spicejet Ltd has been trying to come  back to its feet after a share sale to its erstwhile owner Ajay Singh from the Marans.
In a quick turn of events, the airline, by December 31, 2014  had canceled over 1800 flights and its future looked liked going towards the Kingfisher airline way. The airline was in such a financial crisis that the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had to put a hold on the airline selling flight tickets in advance.
The airline has been trying to gain back the confidence of its customers by offering discounted fares.
The airline, in January, offered a 3-day flash sale for 5 lakh tickets priced at Rs 1499 per ticket. The offer expired on February 1 and the airline quickly followed it up by another offer of Rs 1599 per ticket for flights between February 15 and April 15, 2015. Then, on February 7, SpiceJet came up with another two-day sale offering flight tickets at Rs 1899.
Out of all the sales that SpiceJet offered since the beginning of this year, this one, at Rs 1899 per ticket, was the steepest one.
The company then announced "cheaper than train" fares of just Rs 599 per ticket and is lowest offering till date.
