Smoke near airport delays flight departure, arrival


The departure and arrival of five flights in Chennai airport was delayed for over 30 minutes after smoke emanated in the area affecting visibility on the runway, airport sources said today. 
A private flight from Tiruchirapalli, aborted its attempt to land on the runway around 10.30 pm yesterday after its visibility was affected due to the smoke and eventually four other flights too were delayed for over 30 minutes, they said. 
All these flights landed after the smoke was cleared, they said. Officials clarified that the smoke emanated from outside the airport campus and they were looking into the source of the smoke.
