Lucknow, Amritsar airports made CAT-II compliant: AAI

Airports Authority of India today said it has made Lucknow and Amritsar airports compliant for CAT-II operations from today.
State-run Airports Authority of India today said it has made Lucknow and Amritsar airports compliant for CAT-II operations from today, which will facilitate landing of aircraft in visibility of up to 300 m.

CAT-II system is applicable on Low Visibility Take Off (LVTO) with a Runway Visual Range (RVR) of 125 meters and landing with RVR capability of 300 m. AAI, however, had earlier planned to make Jaipur, Lucknow and Amritsar airports compliant for CAT III-B operations from this winter season.

At Lucknow and Amritsar airports, the AAI has installed CAT-III compliant Instrument Landing System (ILS) with other infrastructure for commencing CAT III-B operations and the work is in progress. CAT-III is an ILS approach that is conducted in low visibility and in which the cockpit has specialised instruments that allow the pilot to fly in almost zero visibility.
