Civil aviation ministry calls Federation of Indian Airlines to finalise aviation policy

The civil aviation ministry has invited the Federation of Indian Airlines to discuss their views on the civil aviation policy being finalised by the ministry.

The federation represents local carriers Jet, IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir. "FIA had sought time and we have asked them to come on December 30," said a senior ministry official, who did not want to be identified.

Aviation ministry is currently discussing the policy with stakeholders and carrying out changes on the basis of 450 comments it has already received.

The official said all airlines have asked for discontinuation of the domestic flying credit (DFC) formula under which airlines will have to earn DFC points to become eligible to fly international. "Airlines have opposed it on the grounds of it being complex and difficult to implement," the official said.

The ministry is looking at finalising on the policy in January. "We are targeting to send the civil aviation policy to the Cabinet by the end of first week of January. We want to get the policy cleared from cabinet by the third week of next month," said the official. The person also said the ministry will implement the regional connectivity plan from April 1, 2016.
