Flight delayed, 250 Air India passengers stranded at Gurgaon hotel for nearly a day

An Air India flight to Chicago from New Delhi got indefinitely delayed on Sunday, purportedly because the plane's crew didn't arrive, leaving as many as 250 passengers stranded in a Gurgaon hotel where the airline put them up.

The flight, AI 127, was to take off at 2 am. But when this correspondent met the passengers at the hotel on Sunday evening, almost 18 hours since the scheduled departure time, they still had no idea when the flight would take off.

The passengers said they had completed check-in formalities and were ready to board the flight when the airline announced the delay just half an hour before takeoff. Around two hours later, they were put on buses and taken to Gurgaon. "We boarded a bus around 4am that brought us to this hotel in Gurgaon. At the immigration, AI staff took our passports, putting us in a very uncomfortable position," said Bhardwaj Desai, a Chicago-based passenger.
