Spicejet says salaries will be delayed

SpiceJet wrote to its pilots on Friday stating salary disbursal process will be affected as Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked it to stop selling tickets beyond one month thus affecting their cash flows. The airline has already been ordered by the DGCA to clear salaries by December 15.

For the first time in the history of SpiceJet, salaries were delayed for this month. "For certain technical reasons that cannot be described in an email (but related to ongoing restructuring, recapitalization, and balance-sheet clean-up related activities), salaries will be delayed by approx. one to three working days, depending on pay grade," chief operating officer Sanjiv Kapoor had then written to its employees.

"The airline has informed of paying salaries of employees below assistant manager level, pilots and cabin crew for this month. The salaries for the rest will be paid by December 15," a senior DGCA official said.

SpiceJet also reached out to travel agents who have become apprehensive of booking passengers on the airline.
