DGCA tells SpiceJet to limit advance booking to 1 month

Financially hamstrung SpiceJet has been barred from selling tickets more than a month in advance. Also, its aircraft and crew will fly under strict scrutiny of the aviation regulator to ensure safety isn't compromised by the lack of funds.
The airline, which has already sold advance tickets for travel up to October 2015, said the restriction would be “counter-productive“.
Director-general of civil aviation Prabhat Kumar, who spoke to SpiceJet COO Sanjiv Kapoor on Wednesday , issued a string of directives on Friday which could prove damaging for the airline unless the promoter, Sun Group's Kalanithi Maran, manages to quickly bring in an investment of at least Rs 1,000 crore. SpiceJet had 33 Boeing 737s some months back. Today it flies only 20. Of its 15 Bombardier Q400s, only 12 operate. As a result, daily flights have fallen from 332 on September 1 to 239 now -down by 93,“ a senior official said. As many as 132 pilots 115 commanders and 17 co-pi lots -have resigned.
