DGCA warns SpiceJet on advance ticket order defiance

Three days after SpiceJet was directed not to sell advance tickets for beyond 30 days, the low-cost carrier has been found to be offering tickets till October 24, 2015.
The directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA), which had issued several curbs for the struggling-to-survive LCC, on Monday evening directed it to immediately stop its advance sales for beyond a month failing which the regulator warned that a showcause notice will be issued to the airline. Top official says the action for defying a regulatory order -issued in public interest to protect flyers from long-term bookings on this financially crippled airline -could even be suspension of its licence. On its part, a SpiceJet spokesperson said, “We have told the DGCA in our response that we would like to discuss that matter and plan to do so tomorrow (Tuesday) post board meeting.“
DGCA chief Prabhat Kumar had on Friday issued a string of directives for SpiceJet after clearance from aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju and neither the ministry nor the regulator has taken the airline's defiance kindly . “The airline will have to give a bank guarantee for their entire dues by Wednesday , failing which they will be put on cash & carry .SpiceJet's dues of Rs 194 crore had been staggered for 10 days to give them some time and that period ends on Wednesday,“ said an official.
