Lifeline Udan 422 flights deliver 790 tonnes of essential medical cargo across country

422 flights have been operated under Lifeline Udan to deliver essential medical cargo to people across the country. Over 790 tonnes of cargo have been transported by these flights till date.

These flights have been operated under Lifeline Udan by Air India, Alliance Air, Indin Air Force and private carriers. 244 of these flights have been operated by Air India and Alliance Air. An Aerial distance of over 4.13 lakh kilometres were covered by Lifeline Udan flights so far.‘Lifeline Udan’ flights are being operated by Civil Aviation Ministry to transport essential medical cargo to remote parts of the country to support India’s war against COVID-19.

Helicopter services including Pawan Hans Ltd have been operating in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Islands and North East region transporting critical medical cargo and patients. Special focus has been on the North East Region, island territories and the hilly states.

In International Sector, a cargo air-bridge was established with East Asia for transportation of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and Covid-19 relief material. The quantity of medical cargo brought in by Air India is 842 tons. Blue Dart has also transported around 114 tonnes of medical supplies from Guangzhou and Shanghai from 14 April to 1st of May 2020. Spicejet has brought in medical supplies from different places including Hong Kong and Singapore.

COVID-19 impact: Indian aviation sector may lose $4 billion in FY21, says CAPA India

The Indian aviation sector is likely to lose up to $4 billion in the financial year 2021, advisory firm CAPA India has said, raising the loss estimate from the earlier $3.6 billion. In a report released on July 3, CAPA India also talked of a higher capitalisation need for Indian airlines, up from $2.5 billion to $3.5 billion. Critically, the firm said the Indian aviation sector may be reduced to just two to three players, from more than half a dozen now, including Air India,  IndiGo ,  SpiceJet  and GoAir. "Consolidation is looking more likely and will result in a very significant change in the structure of the industry.
